About Jega Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Jega local government area is domiciled in Kebbi state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Jega. Towns and villages that make up Jega LGA include Jega, Kimba, Akalawa, Basaura, Maza Goma, Gindi, Firchin, Dumbegu, and Sarkin Fada. The estimated population of Jega LGA is 173,808 inhabitants with the area mostly populated by people from the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in the area while Islam is the most practiced religion in the LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF JEGA

Jega LGA occupies a total area of 891 square kilometres and witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The LGA has an average humidity level of 29 percent with the average wind speed in the area put at 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF JEGA

Farming is a major occupation of the people of Jega LGA with crops such as rice and wheat grown in large quantities within the area. A number of animals such as cattle, rams, and donkeys are reared and sold in the LGA. The area also has a vibrant trade sector with the LGA hosting several markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities in Jega LGA include hunting, craftsmanship, pottery, and blacksmithing.
