Ibeju/lekki

Ibeju/Lekki local government area is one of the 20 LGAs in Lagos state, Southwest Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Igando Oloja. Ibeju/Lekki LGA shares boundaries with Eti osa and Epe LGAs and with the Atlantic ocean. Towns and villages that make up Ibeju/Lekki LGA include Aiyeteju, Awoyaya, Bogoje, Akodo, Eputu, Badore, Elerangbe, and Iberikodo. Ibeju/ Lekki LGA also hosts the Lekki Local Council Development Area. The estimated population of Ibeju/Lekki LGA is 288,743 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic division. The Ijebu dialect of the Yoruba language is predominantly spoken in the LGA with Christianity and Islam being the area’s most practiced religions.

GEOGRAPHY OF IBEJU/LEKKI

Ibeju/Lekki LGA covers a total area of 455 square kilometres and has several creeks and lagoons flowing through its territory. The average temperature of the LGA is 26 degrees centigrade while the humidity level of the area is at an average of 76 percent. The total recorded rainfall in Ibeju/Lekki LGA is at an average of 3200 mm per annum.

ECONOMY OF IBEJU/LEKKI

Ibeju/Lekki LGA is the site of a rapidly developing area as the LGA is witnessing a speedy transformation from a rural settlement to an ultra-modern and industrialized area. A lot of industries, hotels, and real estate properties are springing up all over the LGA. Ibeju/Lekki LGA also host the popular Lekki free trade zone which hosts the soon to be completed Dangote Mega oil Refinery. Other major contributors to the economy of Ibeju/Lekki LGA include fishing and tourism.

HISTORY OF IBEJU/LEKKI

Ibeju/Lekki LGA was created in the year 1990 from the old Epe LGA.
