About Ikorodu Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ikorodu is one of the twenty LGAs found in Lagos state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The LGA shares boundaries with parts of Ogun state and with Lagos lagoon and the Epe division of Lagos state. Ikorodu LGA hosts a number of Local Council Development Areas and these are Imota, Igbogbo/Bayeku, Ikorodu west, Ijede, and Ikorodu North LCDAs. Towns and villages that make up Ikorodu LGA include Igbaga, Laketu, Majoda, Abule Oba, Ajepadi, Irepodun, Ibelefun, and Salabo. The estimated population of Ikorodu LGA is put at 431,899 inhabitants with the area hosting members of diverse ethnic affiliations. The Yoruba and English languages are commonly spoken in Ikorodu LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Ikorodu include the Caleb University Imota.


GEOGRAPHY OF IKORODU

Ikorodu LGA covers a total area of 345 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons while average humidity level of the area is 72 percent.


ECONOMY OF IKORODU

Ikorodu LGA hosts several hotels, industries, financial institutions, and both government and privately owned companies. Trade also flourishes in Ikorodu LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Ayagbunren Sabo market where a large number of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities engaged in by dwellers of Ikorodu LGA include pottery and craftsmanship.
