About Somolu Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Somolu local government area is one of the twenty LGAs found in Lagos state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquaerters of the LGA are in Somolu with the LGA made up of a number of districts which include Onipanu, Palmgrove, Folagoro, Fadeyi, Igbobi, Bajulaiye, Alade, Bariga, and Akoka. The LGA has a current estimated population of 503,628 inhabitants with the area inhabited by members of diverse ethnic affiliations. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in Somolu LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Somolu LGA include the National headquarters of WAEC, YABATECH, Igbobi College, and the University of Lagos. The Oba of Somolu is the traditional administrator in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF SOMOLU

Somolu LGA has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade. The LGA has a tropical climate and witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The LGA has an average humidity level of 69 percent while the total precipitation in the area is estimated at 2450 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF SOMOLU

Somolu LGA hosts a viable trade sector with the area having a number of markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. These markets include the Sabo and Yaba markets which attract hundreds of buyers and sellers each day. Somolu LGA also plays hosts to several hotels, banks, industries, boutiques, schools, relaxation spots as well as government and privately owned institutions which all contribute to the economy of the area.
