About Ifako-ijaye Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ifako Ijaiye LGA is one of the twenty LGA s found in Lagos state, South-west Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ifako while the LGA comprises of towns and villages/districts such as Ogba-ijaiye, Fagba, Iju-Ishaga, Iju-Ogundimu, Oke-ira, and Obawole. Ifako Ijaiye LGA is bordered by parts of Ogun state and has an estimated population of 411,055 inhabitants with majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic division. The Yoruba and English languages are commonly spoken in the area while Christianity and Islam are the commonly practiced religions in the LGA.  Notable landmarks in Ifako Ijaiye LGA include the Ifako Ijaiye General Hospital and the Ifako International schools.


GEOGRAPHY OF IFAKO-IJAYE

Ifako Ijaiye LGA occupies a total area of 43 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and rainy seasons. The humidity level of the area is at an average of 73 percent with average wind speed in the area pegged at 12 km/h.


ECONOMY OF IFAKO-IJAYE

Ifako Ijaiye LGA hosts several banks, hotels, relaxation spots and both government and privately owned institutions. The LGA also has a v ibrant trade sector with the area hosting several markets such as the Obawole and the Ojodu markets where inhabitants of the area buy and sell a wide range of commodities.

HISTORY OF IFAKO-IJAYE

Ifako Ijaiye LGA was created on the 1st of October 1996 from the Agege LGA.
