About Kosofe Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kosofe local government area is located in Lagos state, Southwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ojota. Kosofe LGA consists of the Ikosi-isheri and the Agboyi-ketu LCDAs and shares boundaries with Ikeja, Ikorodu, and Somolu LGAs and with parts of Ogun state. Towns, villages and districts that make up Kosofe LGA include Ikosi, Ojota, Oworonshoki, Gbagada, Ajao Estate, and Ogudu. The estimated population of Kosofe LGA is 494,712 inhabitants with the area made up of diverse ethnic affiliations. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the area. Popular festivals held in Kosofe LGA include the Ogun and the Igunuko festivals while prominent traditional rulers in the area include the Ologudu of Ogudu and the Oba of Oworonshoki.


GEOGRAPHY OF KOSOFE

Kosofe LGA covers a total area of 81 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average humidity level of the area put at 60 percent.


ECONOMY OF KOSOFE

Trade is a major component of the economy of Kosofe LGA with the area hosting a number of markets which include the Binukonu and the Ojota markets. The area also hosts a number of industries, banks, hotels and a number of privately as well as publicly owned institutions.

HISTORY OF KOSOFE

Kosofe LGA was created on the 27th day of November 1996.
