About Bokkos Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Bokkos local government area is in Plateau state, Northcentral Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Bokkos. The towns and villages that make up Bokkos LGA include Batun, Tangur, Richa, Daffo, Manguna, Kawel, Mushere, and Kamwai. The population of Bokkos LGA is estimated at 176,055 inhabitants with the most populous tribes in the area being the Ron, the Kulere, and the Mushere with their respective dialects spoken in the LGA. The Saf Ron is the traditional administrator of the area while Christianity and Islam are the widely practiced religions in the area. Popular festivals in Bokkos LGA include the Wushiri cultural festival, and the Nahwai day festival while the landmarks in the area include the Plateau state University.

Bokkos LGA sits on an area measuring 1,682 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade. The humidity of Bokkos LGA is puta t 55 percent while the wind speed in the area averages 14 km/h.


ECONOMY OF BOKKOS

Agriculture is the major occupation of the people of Bokkos with the area known for massive cultivation of Irish potatoes amongst several other crops. Other important economic activities in the area include hunting, pottery and welding. The area also has a booming trade sector with the LGA hosting several markets such as the Buntura-Kunnet market and the New market in Kuba.
