About Pankshin Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Pankshin local government area is in Plateau state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Pankshin with the LGA comprising of towns and villages which include Pankshin, Wokkos, Chip, Lankan, Fier, Kadung, Kulukning, and Chigwong. The current estimated population of Pankshin LGA is put at 188,732 inhabitants with the area mostly populated by members of diverse ethnic groups such as the Ngas, Mupun, Pal, and Bijim. The Ngas language is spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are extensively practiced in the area. Important festivals held in Pankshin LGA included the Pusdung festival while the notable landmarks in the LGA include the Pankshin Dam and the Federal College of Education Pankshin.


GEOGRAPHY OF PANKSHIN

Pankshin LGA covers a total area of 1524 square kilometres with the area’s landscape characterized by several hills and mountains. The LGA has an average temperature of 24 degrees centigrade with the area known for its usually cold weather with temperatures in the LGA known to reach levels as low as 19 degrees centigrade.


ECONOMY OF PANKSHIN

Pankshin LGA has a vibrant trade sector with the area hosting several markets such as the Pankshin Monday Market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Farming is also an important economic activity in Pankshin LGA with the area known for the cultivation of crops such as salads, cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions. Other important economic activities in Pankshin LGA include hunting, mining, and animal rearing.
