Wase

Wase local government area is in Plateau state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Wase and is made up of several towns and villages which include Madaci, Zurak, Nyalun, Lamba, kadarko, Wase, Zamburun, Kuyambana, and Garga. Wase LGA hosts the Wase Emirate and has an estimated population of 171,004 inhabitants with the area hosting members of different ethnic groups which include the Jukun, Basharawa, and the Fulani. The Yankham language is commonly spoken in Wase LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Wase LGA include the Government Secondary School, Wase and the palace of the Emir of Wase while festivals held in the area include the Illum Otarok festival.

Wase LGA sits on a total area of 1750 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade.  The LGA hosts the popular Wase Rock and has vast forest reserves.  The Wase River flows through the area while the average wind speed in the LGA is put at 11 km/h.

ECONOMY OF WASE

Wase LGA is rich in mineral deposits of Zinc, Lead, and tin with the area hosting several mining companies and the activities of these mining companies contribute immensely to the economy of the LGA. Trade also flourishes in Wase LGA with the area hosting several markets which include the Dampar weekly market which attracts hundreds of buyers and sellers of diverse commodities. Other important economic activities that take place in Wase LGA include hunting, lumbering, and wood carving.
