Mangu

Mangu local government area is in Plateau state, North-central Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Mangu. Towns and villages that make up Mangu LGA include Mangu, Langai, Gindiri, Panyan, Kumbul, Vodni, Kerang, and Jipal. The estimated population of Mangu LGA is put at 202,748 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers made up of members of the Mwaghavul and the Pyem ethnic groups. The Mwaghavul language is widely spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. Popular festivals held in Mangu LGA include the Puus Kaat festival.

Mangu LGA covers a total area of 1,653 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 29 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The LGA has an average humidity level of 49 percent while the average wind speed in the area is put at 11 km/h.

ECONOMY OF MANGU

Farming is a major occupation of the people of Mangu LGA with crops such as tomatoes, onions, potatoes, and salads grown in the area. Trade also flourishes in the area with the LGA hosting several markets which attract several buyers and sellers and these markets include the Kombun district market and the Mangu maize market. Other important economic activities in Mangu LGA include hunting and craftsmanship.
