About Anambra East Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Anambra east local government area is found in Anambra state, Southeast Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Otuocha. Anambra east consists of several towns and villages which include Aguleri, Otuocha, Igbariam, Umuleri, Nando, Nsugbe, and Umuoba Anam. The population of Anambra east is estimated at 204,113 with the overwhelming majority being members of the Igbo ethnic group.

Christianity and traditional religion are the major religious affiliations in the area with the Igbo and English languages spoken widely in the area. Prominent festivals held in Anambra east LGA include the New yam festival and the Otite festival while important landmarks in the area include the Orient petroleum industries in Aguleri and the Anambra state university in Igbariam.


GEOGRAPHY OF ANAMBRA EAST

Anambra east LGA has a humidity of 79 percent with average temperature estimated at 27.5 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry season which lasts between the months of November and March and the rainy season which runs through April to October.


ECONOMY OF ANAMBRA EAST

Anambra east LGA is a commercial and agricultural area with crops cultivated in the area being yam, rice, cassava and cocoyam. The area has several markets such as the Otuocha market, the New parts market, and the Afia Ama market which add immensely to the economic reputation of the area. Anambra east is also rich in mineral resources with large deposits of crude oil found in Aguleri town.
