About Ekwusigo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ekwusigo local government area is found in Anambra state, Southeast Nigeria with the headquarters of the area domiciled in the town of Ozubulu. The towns and villages that make up Ekwusigo LGA include Oraifite, Ihembosi, Ichi, Ozubulu, Ubulu uno, Ubulu uku, and Omambara.The population of Ekwusigo LGA is estimated at 172,644 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s populace being members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo and English languages are widely spoken in the area while Christianity is the commonly practiced religion in the LGA. Popular festivals held in Ekwusigo local government area include the New yam festival and the Uzoiyi festival while the notable landmarks in the area include the Nigerian Post Office at Ozubulu.


Ekwusigo local government area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The LGA is home to a number of rivers and has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade. The average humidity of the area is put at 85 percent while the wind speed in the area averages 13 km/h.


Ekwusigo local government area is known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as maize, yam, cassava and cocoyam. The area also hosts several markets which include the Ichi central market. Other important economic activities in the LGA include fishing, welding and manufacturing.
