About Ogbaru Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ogbaru local government area is in Anambra state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria with its headquarters in the town of Atani. Ogbaru LGA is bordered by parts of Rivers and Delta state and is made up of several towns and villages which include Obeagwe, Oluta, Ochuche, Umunankwo, Okpoko, Odekpe, Atani, and Umuzu. The estimated population of Ogbaru LGA is put at 197,808 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area. A number of colourful festivals are held in Ogbaru LGA and these include the Ogbaru Boat Regatta Festival while notable landmarks in the area include the Nigerian Navy Base, Ogbaru.


GEOGRAPHY OF OGBARU

Ogbaru LGA has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade with the LGA witnessing two major seasons which are the dry and rainy seasons. The average humidity level of Ogbaru LGA is put at 70 percent while the average wind speed in the area is estimated at 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF OGBARU

Fishing is an important economic activity in Ogbaru LGA with the area’s rivers and streams being rich in seafood. Farming is also a critical feature in the economy of Ogbaru LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a wide variety of crops such as rice, yam, and cassava. Trade also booms in Ogbaru LGA with the area hosting several markets where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold.
