About Orumba South Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Orumba south local government area is situated in Anambra state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Umunze. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Nawfija, Alaohia, Uhala, Umuomaku, Ezira, Nkerehi, Agbudu, and Ogbunka. The estimated population of Orumba south LGA is put at 183,447 inhabitants with the LGA mostly populated by members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the LGA with the religion of Christianity being the most practiced in the area. Popular festivals held in Orumba south LGA include the New Yam festival while the notable landmarks in the area include Community High School Ogboji.


Orumba south LGA has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade with the area hosting several rivers and streams. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons while the average humidity level in the area is put at 66 percent.


Trade is an important feature of the economy of Orumba south LGA with the area hosting several markets which include the Eke Isulo and the Nkwo Ogbunka markets. Farming is also an important economic activity in the LGA with crops such as rice, yam, maize, and cassava grown in large quantities within the area. Other important economic activities in the Orumba south LGA include hunting, fishing, and wood carving.
