About Ehime Mbano Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ehime Mbano is a local government area found in Imo state, Southeast Nigeria and the LGA has its headquarters in the town of Umuezeala. Ehime Mbano local government area shares borders with Onuimo, Ahiazu Mbaise, Isiala Mbano, and Okigwe LGAs. Ehime Mbano LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Umueze, Umueleke, Nsu, Agbagbara, Ikpe, Umuakagu, Umuanunu and Abosi. The population of Ehime Mbano LGA is estimated at 127,903 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s populace being the members of the Igbo tribe. The Igbo and English languages are spoken in the LGA while Christianity is the commonly practiced religion in the area. A number of colourful festivals are held in Ehime Mbano LGA and they include the Iwa akwa festival and the Iri ji festival.


GEOGRAPHY OF EHIME MBANO

Ehime Mbano LGA covers a total area of 169 square kilometres and witnesses both the dry and the rainy seasons with a brief harmattan during the dry season. The average temperature of the area is 28 degrees centigrade while the wind speed in the area averages 13 km/h.


ECONOMY OF EHIME MBANO

A number of crops such as yam, cassava, cocoyam, oil palm and a variety of vegetables are grown in Ehime Mbano LGA. The LGA also has a vibrant trade sector and hosts several markets such as the Orieagu, the Orie Owerre, and the Satelite markets where the dwellers of the area and neighbouring climes come to buy and sell a wide variety of commodities.

Ehime Mbano local government area was created in 1989 from the Mbano local government area.
