Ideato South

Ideato south local government area is located in Imo state, Southeast Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Dikenafai. Ideato south LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Obioha, Ogboko, Umuago, Ntueke, Umuakam, Umulewe, Awalla, and Duruahurunwa. The estimated population of Ideato South LGA is 169,733 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is extensively spoken in the area while Christianity is the commonly practiced religion in the LGA. Notable landmarks in the LGA include the Ogboko oil palm mill.

The Orashi river originates and flows through Ideato south LGA with the average wind speed in the LGA pegged at 9 km/h.

Farming is an important aspect of the economy of Ideato south LGA with crops such as oil palm, melon, rubber, maize, breadfruit, yam, and cassava grown in the area. Trade also booms in the LGA with the area hosting the Imo international market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Ideato South LGA also hosts several banks, hotels, and both publicly owned and privately owned institutions.
