Nwangele

Nwangele local government area is one of the 27 LGAs found in Imo state, South-east Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Amaigbo and the LGA is made up of towns and villages such as Umuozu, Abba, Isu, Amaigbo, Abeja, Umuezeala, Ebikpe, and Ezeobolo. The estimated population of Nwangele LGA is put at 183,401 inhabitants with the area mostly inhabited by members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the area while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in Nwangele LGA include the Uburu of Abba while popular festivals held in the area include the Okorosha, the Iri-ji and the Nwangele cultural festivals.

Nwangele LGA covers a total area of 63 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The LGA has the popular Nwangele River flowing through its territory.

ECONOMY OF NWANGELE

Nwangele LGA is home to a viable trade sector with the area hosting several markets which include the Orie Abajah market. The area is also an agricultural hub with crops such as yam, cocoyam, and oil palm grown in the area. Other important economic enterprises engaged in by the people of Nwangele LGA include wood works, welding and craftsmanship.
