About Mbaitoli Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Mbaitoli local government area is in Imo state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Nwaorieubi and the area is bordered by the Oru, Njaba, Isu, Owerri north, Owerri west, Oguta, and Ikeduru LGAs. Towns and villages that make up Mbaitoli LGA include Mbieri, Ogwa, Ogbaku, Umunoha, Ifakala, Orodo, Afara, and Ubomiri. The estimated population of Mbaitoli LGA is put at 201,648 inhabitants with the area mostly populated by members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the area while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area. A number of traditional festivals are held in Mbaitoli LGA and these include the Owu and the Ekeleke festivals while notable landmarks in the area include the Federal School of Soil Science and the Igwekala shrine.


GEOGRAPHY OF MBAITOLI

Mbaitoli LGA covers a total area of 204 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The area hosts the Ugwuokwu lake and the Egbeada River and has an average humidity level of 64 percent. The LGA also hosts the expansive Idem Forests and has an average wind speed of 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF MBAITOLI

Trade is a key aspect of the economy of Mbaitoli LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Eke Ututu market in Ifakala town. Farming is also an important economic activity in Mbaitoli LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as Yam, cassava, cocoyam, and oil palm. Other important economic activities in Mbaitoli LGA include auto-mechanic repairs, welding, and woodwork.

Mbaitoli LGA was created on the 11th of May 1989.
