Isiala Mbano

Isiala Mbano local government area is in Imo state which is in the South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Umuelemai and the LGA shares borders with Onuimo, Nwangele, Ehime Mbano, Ikeduru, and Mbaitolu LGAs. Towns and villages that make up Isiala Mbano LGA include Anara, Osu owerre, Ezumoha, Ezihe, Umuozu, Amaraku, Umuenyi, and Ibeme. The estimated population of Isiala Mbano LGA is 169,738 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is extensively spoken in the LGA while Christianity is the most practiced religion in the area. Popular festivals celebrated in isiala Mbano LGA include the Ozuruimo and the New Yam festivals while the Odu of Osu owerre is one of the prominent traditional rulers in the area.

The LGA falls within the rainforest zone and is characterized by an undulating topography. The average humidity level of the LGA is 71 percent while the average wind speed in the area is 12 km/h.

ECONOMY OF ISIALA MBANO

Farming is a key economic activity in Isiala Mbano LGA with crops such as maize, oil palm, and cassava groen in the area. The area also hosts a number of markets such as the Owerre Anara and the Orie Amaraku markets where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities undertaken by the people of Isiala Mbano LGA include blacksmithing and lumbering.
