About Ihitte/uboma Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ihitte Uboma local government area is in Imo state which is in the Southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Isinweke while the LGA is made up of towns and villages such as Amakohia, Nnacheru, Umuode, Ato-Werem, Omuchienta, Emekengwe, Atekenta, and Umuezeokwa. The estimated population of Ihitte Uboma LGA is 175,088 inhabitants with the predominant tribe in the area being the Igbo people. The Igbo language is widely spoken in the area while Christianity is the primarily practiced religion in the area. Important festivals in Ihitte Uboma include the Iwa akwa festival while the notable landmarks in the area include the Imo state college of Education.


GEOGRAPHY OF IHITTE/UBOMA

Ihitte Uboma LGA occupies a total area of 104 square kilometres and lies within the deep rainforest region of Imo state. Ihitte Uboma LGA lies on the banks of the Imo River and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The average wind speed in the area is 10 km/h and has an average humidity level of 68 percent.


ECONOMY OF IHITTE/UBOMA

Ihitte Uboma LGA has a vibrant agricultural sector and is known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as Yam, cassava, and oil palm. The area also hosts a number of markets such as the Nkwo Ihitte, and the Isinweke daily markets where a large number of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Ihitte Uboma LGA include carpentry, blacksmithing, and auto mechanic repairs.
