About Ibaji Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ibaji local government area is situated in Kogi state, Northcentral Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Onyedega. The LGA shares boundaries with Enugu and Anambra states and is made up of several towns and villages such as Onyedega, Agojejeu, Gbokoluba, Ojukpo, Igbadim, Ayanka, Adoma, and Ogbogbo. The estimated population of Ibaji LGA is 121,055 inhabitants with the area hosting members of diverse ethnic affiliations. Islam and Christianity are the commonly practiced religions in Ibaji LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF IBAJI

Ibaji LGA lies off the shores of the River Niger and occupies a total area of 1,377 square kilometres. The average temperature of Ibaji LGA is 29 degrees centigrade with the area hosting a number of rivers and tributaries. The humidity level in Ibaji LGA is at an average of 53 percent while the total annual rainfall in the LGA is estimated at 1450 mm.


ECONOMY OF IBAJI

Ibaji LGA has large deposits of crude oil and has some oil wells domiciled in the area although the ownership of these oil wells has been an issue of contention between the states of Kogi, Enugu, and Anambra. Farming is a critical aspect of the economy of Ibaji LGA with the area known for the production of crops such as rice, yam, corn, potato, cassava, and vegetables. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Ibaji LGA include Fishing and trade.

HISTORY OF IBAJI

Ibaji LGA was created in the year 1996.
