About Igalamela/odolu Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Igalamela Odolu local government area is situated in Kogi state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ajaka and the LGA shares boundaries with the Niger River and parts of Enugu state. Towns and villages that make up Igalamela Odolu LGA include Odolu, Ajaka, Ofodo, Akpanya, Ogbodibo, Agbokete, Ogbolibomi, and Ojigbe. The estimated population of Igalamela Odolu LGA is 139,603 inhabitants with the predominant tribe in the LGA being the Igala. The Igala language is widely spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity and Islam are commonly practiced in the area. A number of colourful festivals are held in Igalamela Odolu LGA and these include the Italo and Aboko festivals.


GEOGRAPHY OF IGALAMELA/ODOLU

Igalamela Odolu LGA occupies a total area of about 2,175 square kilometres and has an average annual temperature of 31 square kilometres. The average humidity level of the LGA is 66 percent while the total precipitation in the area is estimated at 2100 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF IGALAMELA/ODOLU

Farming is a key economic activity in Igalamela Odolu LGA with a wide variety of crops grown in the area. Fishing is also a popular economic venture in Igalamela Odolu LGA owing to the proximity of the LGA to the River Niger. Important minerals found in Igalamela Odolu LGA include limestone and coal. Other important economic activities in Igalamela Odolu LGA include hunting, blacksmithing, mining and trade.
