About Mopa-muro Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Mopa-Muro local government area is domiciled in the state of Kogi, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Mopa and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Anunmade, Iya lere, Aribo, Mopa, Annumote, Omolokun,and Arupe Dena. The estimated population of Mopa Moro LGA is put at 173,492 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Okun ethnic sub-division of the Yoruba tribe. The Yagba dialect of the Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the area while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area. Popular festivals held in Mopa Moro LGA include the Egungun festival while the notable landmarks in the area include the Mopa breweries and the Kogi state-owned Government Technical College Mopa.


GEOGRAPHY OF MOPA-MURO

Mopa Moro LGA covers a total area of 901 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average humidity level in the LGA put at 65 percent.


ECONOMY OF MOPA-MURO

A number of mineral deposits such as limestone, Talc, and Mica are found in Mopa Moro LGA. The LGA also boasts a rich agricultural heritage with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as yam, cassava, melon, and vegetables. Trade also booms in Mopa Moro LGA with the area hosting several markets which provide platforms for the exchange of a variety of goods and services.
