About Yagba East Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Yagba East local government area is situated in Kogi state, North-central geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Isanlu and the area is made up of a number of towns and villages such as Ogbon, Ejuku, Alu, Oranre, Panyan, Odo-amu, Idofin, Ijowa, and Irunda. The estimated population of Yagba east LGA is put at 172,359 inhabitants with the primary occupants of the area being members of the Okun ethnic sub-division of the Yoruba tribe . The Okun dialect of the Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in Yagba east LGA include the Olu-Ejuku of Ejuku while notable landmarks in the area include the Omi dam Rice Mill and the Government Science Secondary School, Isanlu.

Yagba east LGA occupies a total area of 1396 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The LGA has an estimated average humidity level of 44 percent and an average wind speed of 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF YAGBA EAST

Yagba east LGA is a hub for agricultural practices with the area known for the cultivation of a variety of crops such as yam, rice, and cassava. A number of mineral deposits such as gold are also found in Yagba east LGA. Other important economic activities that take place in Yagba east LGA include trade, animal rearing, crafts making, wood carving, and lumbering.
