About Idah Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Idah local government area is situated in Kogi state which is found in the North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in Idah town with the area constituting of several towns and villages such as Agalugbaje, Ugwoda, Ojebe, Ichijenu, Ejofe, Ofulko, Okpakpata, Oforrachi, and Adoru. The estimated population of Idah LGA is 120,956 inhabitants with the area’s most dominant ethnic affiliation being the Igala. The Attah Igala is the prominent traditional ruler in the LGA while the Igala language is extensively spoken in the area. Islam and Christianity are the commonly practiced religions in Idah LGA while notable landmarks in the area include the Federal Polytechnic Idah and the Federal Government College Ugudawo.


GEOGRAPHY OF IDAH

Idah LGA is situated on the banks of the Niger River and occupies a total area of 36 square kilometres. The average temperature of the area is 30 degrees centigrade while the average humidity level of the LGA is 56 percent.


ECONOMY OF IDAH

Farming is a major occupation of the dwellers of Idah LGA with crops such as oil palm, rubber, cotton, and yam grown in the area. Mineral deposits foind in Idah LGA include limestone and coal. Idah LGA also has a River Port with a sizeable percentage of the area’s inhabitants engaging in Fishing. Other important economic activities in Idah LGA include trade and blacksmithing. Idah LGA also hosts several banks, hotels and government and public institutions.
