About Olamaboro Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Olamaboro local government area is situated within Kogi state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Okpo. The LGA shares boundaries with parts of Enugu and Benue states and comprises of several towns and villages which include Imani, Ogodu, Okpo, Adumu, Enabo, Ofenwa, Ojamakogwu, Eboyi, and Akpagidigbo. The estimated population of Olamaboro LGA is put at 236,418 inhabitants with the area populated by members of diverse ethnic affiliations such as the Idoma, Igala, and the Ogugu. The Idoma and Igala languages are spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the LGA. A number of festivals such as the Ote-egwu festival are held in Olamboro LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF OLAMABORO

Olamaboro LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The LGA occupies a total area of 1,132 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The LGA has an estimated average humidity level of 49 percent.


ECONOMY OF OLAMABORO

Olamaboro LGA has a rich agricultural sector with the area known for the cultivation of a variety of food and cash crops. Trade also blossoms in the LGA with the area hosting several markets where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. Other economic enterprises engaged in by the people of Olamaboro LGA include pottery, hunting and the rearing of domestic animals.
