About Bama Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Bama local government area is found in Borno state which is domiciled in the Northeast geopolitical zone of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Bama and the area comprises a number of towns and villages which include Burari, Ndobe, Bama, Shehuri, Gulumba, Bagumari, Bulamanga, and Zangeri. The population of Bama is put at 138,451 inhabitants with the majority being members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic divisions. Islam is the widely practiced religion in Bama LGA with the Hausa and Fufulde languages spoken extensively in the area. In recent times however, Bama LGA has become a shadow of itself as the area has been hardly hit by the activities of Islamic insurgents who have consistently overrun the area and wreaked havoc on human lives and property. Consequently, the population of Bama LGA has greatly depleted while the economy of the area has greatly stagnated.


GEOGRAPHY OF BAMA

Bama local government area covers a total area of 4,997 square kilometres and features two distinct seasons which are the rainy and dry seasons with the latter characterized by harsh sunlight and extremely high temperatures. The average temperature of Bama LGA is 34 degrees centigrade while the humidity of the area is estimated at 11 percent.


ECONOMY OF BAMA

Trade is an important economic feature of the Bama LGA with the area having several markets where a plethora of items are available for purchase. Agriculture also contributes immensely to the economy of Bama LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a variety of crops. Other important economic activities in Bama local government area include hunting, cattle rearing and mat making.
