About Kukawa Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kukawa local government area is domiciled in Borno state, North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Kukawa LGA is part of the prestigious Borno Emirate and consists of a number of towns and villages such as Alagama, Yoyo, Kekeho, Bongoa, Degagu, Dabu, Kauwa, and Garanada. The estimated present population of Kukawa LGA is put at 159,738 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Kanuri ethnic division. The Kanuri language is widely spoken in the LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF KUKAWA

Kukawa LGA is situated on the shores of the Lake Chad and has an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade. The area experiences two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average wind speed in the LGA is put at 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF KUKAWA

Fishing is an important economic activity in Kukawa LGA as the residents of the LGA take advantage of the enormous seafood found in the area’s water bodies. Trade also flourishes in Kukawa LGA with the popular Baga fish market domiciled in the area. Other important economic activities engaged in by members of Kukawa LGA include farming and hunting.
