About Kala Balge Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kala Balge LGA is situated in Borno state, North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Rann. Kala Balge LGA is a part of the prestigious Dikwa Emirate and comprises of towns and villages such as Duguma, Kulakura, Gulgum, Mada, Bombo, Diama, Sabba, and Kalam. The estimated population of Kala Balge LGA is put at 184,792 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Hausa, Kanuri and the Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF KALA BALGE

Kala Balge LGA covers a total area of 1,896 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the dry seasons in the area often characterized by extremely high temperatures. The average wind speed in Kala Balge LGA is estimated at 9 km/h.


ECONOMY OF KALA BALGE

Kala Balge LGA is a hub for trade and commerce with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Kala and the Jilbe markets. The LGA also has a rich agricultural heritage with a variety of crops cultivated in the area. The rearing and sales of a number of domestic animals is also a key feature of the economy of Kala Balge. Other important economic enterprises in Kala Balge LGA include hunting, blacksmithing and pottery.
