About Dikwa Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Dikwa local government area is located in Borno state, Northeast Nigeria with its headquarters in the town of Dikwa. Dikwa LGA comprises a number of towns and villages which include Sawa, Gajibo, Bajan gawa, Gumbu, Mudu, Boboshe, Mukeye, and Kudeye. Dikwa LGA is home to the prestigious Dikwa Emirate with the Emir of Dikwa acting as the traditional administrator of the LGA. The population of Dikwa LGA is put at 142,388 inhabitants with the vast majority being members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa and the Fufulde languages are widely spoken in the area while Islam is the Dikwa LGA’S commonly practiced religion. Popular landmarks in Dikwa LGA include the Dikwa Museum and the Dikwa Central Mosque.


GEOGRAPHY OF DIKWA

Dikwa LGA covers a total area of 1,774 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The humidity level of the area averages 18 percent while the average wind speed in Dikwa LGA is 9 km/h.


ECONOMY OF DIKWA

Farming is the major economic engagement of the dwellers of Dikwa LGA as a number of crops are grown in the local government area. Also, a number of animals such as cows, goats and horses are reared in the area. Dikwa LGA is also home to a booming trade sector with the area hosting several markets such as the Kara cattle market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold.
