About Mafa Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Mafa local government area is domiciled in Borno state, North-east Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Mafa. Mafa LGA shares boundaries with Dikwa LGA. Mafa LGA is a part of the prestigious Borno Emirate and is made up of several towns and villages such as Umarari, Limanti, Koshebe, Gawa, Mbuta, Loslari, Anadua, and Masa. The estimated population of Mafa LGA is put at 247,882 inhabitants with the area mostly populated by members of the Shuwa ethnic affiliation. The Shuwa language is commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF MAFA

Mafa LGA covers a total area of 2,869 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The area experiences two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the dry seasons in the area usually characterized by extremely high temperatures.


ECONOMY OF MAFA

Trade flourishes in Mafa LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Ngwom central market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Farming is also an important part of the economy of Mafa LGA with a variety of crops grown in the area. Other important economic enterprises in Mafa LGA include wood works, blacksmithing, animal rearing, and crafts making.
