About Marte Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Marte local government area is domiciled in Borno state, North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Marte. Marte LGA is a part of the Borno Emirate and is made up of several towns and villages which include Kironewa, Ngurmuji, Gurmushi, Saba, Gumma, Masaba, Kajekura, and Wubsa. The current estimated population of Marte LGA is put at 205,717 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Kanuri and Shuwa ethnic groups. The Kanuri and Shuwa languages are commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF MARTE

Marte LGA covers a total area of 3,154 square kilometres and the LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average temperature in Marte LGA is put at 33 degrees centigrade while the average wind speed in the LGA is estimated at 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF MARTE

Agriculture is the major source of livelihood in Marte LGA with crops such as rice and wheat grown in substantially large quantities in the area. Marte LGA is also a hub for the rearing of several animals such as rams, cattle, and donkeys. Trade also flourishes in Marte LGA with the area hosting several markets which provide platforms for the exchange of a plethora of commodities. Other important economic activities engaged in by people of Marte LGA include hunting and crafts making.
