About Ika North East Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ika Northeast local government area is in Delta state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Owa Oyibu. Towns and villages that make up Ika Northeast LGA include Akpama, Ibiegwa, Oduga, Umukpulu, Ute-Erumu, Ndobu, Ikeze, and Anieyime. The estimated population of Ika Northeast LGA is given as 163,442 inhabitants with the area majorly populated by members of the Ika ethnic sub-division. The Ika dialect of the Igbo language is widely spoken in the area while Christianity is the most practiced religion in the LGA. Popular festivals held in Ika Northeast LGA include the Iwa-ji festival while prominent traditional rulers in the LGA include the Obi of Owa kingdom.


GEOGRAPHY OF IKA NORTH EAST

Ika Northeast LGA covers a total area of 463 square kilometres and witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average temperature of the LGA is 26 degrees centigrade while the total precipitation in the area is at an average of 2400 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF IKA NORTH EAST

Ika Northeast LGA hosts a number of markets such as the Umunede morning market and these markets provide platforms for the exchange of a variety of goods and services. The LGA is also known for the cultivation of a variety of food and cash crops such as Yam, cassava, and oil palm.
