About Warri North Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Warri North local government area is one of the twenty-five LGAs that make up Delta state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Koko and the LGA is made up a number of towns and villages which include Bresibi, Koko, Nana, Deghele, Kolokolo, Egbeoma, Ugborodo, Madogho, and Odububa. The estimated population of Warri North LGA is put at 183,221 inhabitants with the area predominantly occupied by members of the Itsekiri and Ijaw ethnic groups. The Itsekiri language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is extensively practiced in the area. TheOlu of Warri is the paramount traditional ruler in Warri North LGA with the area having a number of landmarks which include the koko seaport and the Koko Modular oil Refinery.


GEOGRAPHY OF WARRI NORTH

Warri North LGA occupies a total area of 1841 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade. The LGA has a large number of rivers, creeks, streams, and tributaries flowing through its territory. The average humidity level in Warri North LGA is put at 84 percent while total precipitation in the area is at an estimated 3250 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF WARRI NORTH

Warri North LGA has abundant deposits of crude oil and natural gas and the LGA hosts the prescence of several domestic and multi-national oil enterprises. The LGA also has a vibrant trade sector and hosts a number of markets such as the popular Ogheye floating market. Other important economic activities in Warri North LGA include fishing, farming, and the making of canoes and fishing nets.
