About Patani Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Patani local government area is domiciled in Delta state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria with the headquarters of the LGA situated in the town of Patani. Towns and villages that make up Patani LGA include Kabowei, Kumboei, Abari, Patani, Koloware, Oporoza, Agoloma, and Uduophori. The current estimated population of Patani LGA is put at 158,536 inhabitants with the area predominantly occupied by members of the Tarakiri and Kabo sub-divisions of the Ijaw ethnic group.The Kabo dialect of the Ijaw language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the LGA. Prominent traditional rulers in Patani LGA include the Pere of Kabuowei.


GEOGRAPHY OF PATANI

Patani LGA occupies a total area of 217 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade. The area hosts the Kabobolu creek as well as a number of rivers and streams. The average humidity level in the LGA is put at 80 percent.


ECONOMY OF PATANI

Fishing is an important economic activity in Patani LGA with the area’s rivers and streams being rich in seafood. Trade also blossoms in Patani LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Abari central market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic enterprises undertaken by people of Patani LGA include farming, hunting, and the making of canoes and fishing nets.
