About Ndokwa West Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ndokwa west local government area is situated in Delta state, South-south Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Kwale. Towns and villages that make up Ndokwa west LGA include Utagbe Ogbe, Emu, Ogume, Abbi, Utagbe Uno, Onicha-Ukwuani, Oliogo, and Ijeze. The estimated population of Ndokwa west LGA is put at 208,913 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Ukwuani ethnic group.  The Ukwuani dialect is commonly spoken in the area while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF NDOKWA WEST

Ndokwa west LGA has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade and hosts several rivers and streams. The total precipitation in the LGA is put at an estimated 2950 mm of rainfall while the average humidity level in the area is put at 73 percent. Ndokwa west LGA covers a total area of 816 square kilometres and falls within the Delta Swampy Forest and Tropical rain forest zones.


ECONOMY OF NDOKWA WEST

Ndokwa west LGA is rich in reserves of crude oil and natural gas and the activities of Oil mining firms in and around the area contribute immensely to the economy of the LGA. Fishing is also an important aspect of the economy of Ndokwa west LGA with the area’s rivers and streams being rich in seafood. Other important economic activities in Ndokwa west LGA include farming, trade, sculpting, craftsmaking, and the construction of fishing nets and canoes.
