Isoko South

Isoko south local government area is domiciled in Delta state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Oleh and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Aviara, Uzere, Umeh, Irri, Emede, Igbide, Oleh, Olomoro, and Enwhe. The estimated population of Isoko south LGA is put at 100,569 inhabitants with the area mainly populated by members of the Isoko ethnic sub-division. The Isoko language is commonly spoken in the area while popular festivals held in Isoko south LGA include the Oliho and Omode festivals. The religion of Christianity is extensively practiced in the area while notable landmarks in the area include the Araya Bible Tourist Center and the Ivrogbo sand beaches.

GEOGRAPHY OF ISOKO SOUTH

Isoko south LGA covers a total area of 668 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade. The LGA hosts a number of rivers, canals, and streams and has an average humidity level of 89 percent. The area has features of the Mangrove forest with total precipitation of the area put at 3100 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF ISOKO SOUTH

Isoko south LGA has enormous deposits of crude oil and natural gas with a number of local and international oil companies operating within the area. Other mineral resources found in the LGA include kaolin while other important economic activities engaged in by the dwellers of the LGA include farming, fishing, pottery, crafts making and trade.

HISTORY OF ISOKO SOUTH

Isoko south LGA was created on the 23rd of September 1991 following the disintegration of the old Isoko LGA.
