About Oshimili South Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Oshimili South local government area is found in Delta state, South-south geopolitical enclave of Nigeria with its headquarters in the town of Asaba. Towns and villages that make up Oshimili South LGA include Asaba, Ebu, Illah, Okwe, Oko, Eze, Otuogwu, Elenchele, and Anwai. The current total population of Oshimili South LGA is put at 603,413 inhabitants with the area primarily populated by members of the Anioma ethnic division. The Anioma dialects are commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is extensively practiced in the LGA. Prominent traditional rulers in Oshimili South LGA include the Asagba of Asaba while notable landmarks in the area include the Mungo Park House and the Graveyard Center in Asaba.

Oshimili south LGA occupies a total area of 603 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade. The LGA lies off the shores of the Niger River with the average humidity level in the area put at an estimated 76 percent.


ECONOMY OF OSHIMILI SOUTH

A number of mineral deposits such as granite and kaolin are found in substantial quantities in Oshimili South LGA. The LGA is also a hub for the distillation and production of local gin. Other important economic features of the Oshimili south LGA include fishing, trade, farming, and crafts making.

Oshimili South LGA was created in the year 1997.
