About Sapele Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Sapele local government area is found in Delta state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Elume, Ugborhen, Amukpe, Ogiedi, Onoghro, Okuoke, Inabome, and Amuokpokpo.The estimated population of Sapele LGA is put at 298,310 inhabitants with the LGA mostly populated by members of the Urhobo ethnic group. The Urhobo language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and traditionalism are widely practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Sapele LGA include the Sapele sports stadium and the Sapele Port.


GEOGRAPHY OF SAPELE

Sapele LGA lies near the Benin River off the confluence point of the Benin and Jamieson Rivers. The average temperature in the LGA is put at 25 degrees centigrade with the Ethiope River flowing through the area. The LGA also has an estimated total precipitation of 3050 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF SAPELE

Trade is an important feature of the economy of Sapele LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Sapele main market which attracts several buyers and sellers of diverse commodities. Farming also blossoms in the LGA with food and cash crops such as oil palm and rubber grown in the area. Other important economic enterprises engaged in by the people of Sapele LGA include fishing, lumbering, and crafts making.
