Oron

Oron local government area is found in Akwa Ibom state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Afaha Okpo, Etta, Afaha Oki-uso, Ihie, Ebughu, Effiat, Esin Ufot, and Esuk Oro. The LGA has a current estimated population of 134,562 inhabitants with the area majorly populated by members of the Oron ethnic group. The Oron language is extensively spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the LGA.  The Paramount traditional ruler in Oron LGA is known as the Ahta Oro while notable landmarks in the LGA include the Methodist Boys High School which is one of the oldest secondary schools in Nigeria.

Oron LGA has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade with the area hosting several rivers and tributaries. The LGA has an average humidity level of 82 percent while the average wind speed is estimated at 11km/h. Oron LGA also has vast forest reserves.

ECONOMY OF ORON

Oron LGA is richly endowed with deposits of crude oil and natural gas with the activities of oil mining firms in the area contributing significantly to the economy of the LGA. The area is also a hub for fishing with the numerous water bodies that constitute the LGA being rich in seafood. Other important economic activities that take place in Oron LGA include farming, trade, and lumbering.
