About Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Urue-offong/oruko local government area is situated in Akwa ibom state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Afaha, Mbodong, Ibighi, Ukwong, Okiuso, Ebughu, Okpo, and Eyokpifie. The current population of Urue-offong/oruko LGA is estimated at 187,642 inhabitants with the area majorly occupied by members of the Oron ethnic division. The Oron language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area. Important festivals held in Urue-offong/oruko LGA include the popular Oro festival.

Urue-offong/oruko LGA has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade and hosts a number of rivers, streams and creeks. The LGA also has a substantially large amount of forest reserves with the average humidity level in the area put at 79 percent.

Urue-offong/oruko LGA is rich in depositsof minerals such as crude oil, clay, fine stone, and gravel and the mining activities that take place in the LGA contribute the most to the economy of the area. Fishing is another popular enterprise undertaken by the people of Urue-offong/oruko LGA with the area’s water bodies being rich in seafood. Other important occupations of the people of Urue-offong/oruko LGA include wood carving, farming, and crafts making.
