Udung Uko

Udung Uko local government area is found in Akwa Ibom state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The LGA is bordered by the Oron, Okobo, Urue Offong, Oruku, and Mbo. Towns and villages that constitute Udung Uko LGA include Uboding, Okpo, Afaha Okpo, Uboro Isong Inyang, Enino, Eyo Ating Osung, and Eyiba. The estimated population of Udung Uko LGA is put at 169,084 inhabitants with the area primarily inhabited by members of the Oron ethnic division. The Oron language is widely spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and tradtionalism are commonly practiced in the area.

Udung LGA has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade with a substantial part of the area hosting forest reserves. The LGA also has a number of streams and rivers flowing through its territory with the average humidity level in the LGA put at 79 percent.

ECONOMY OF UDUNG UKO

Udung Uko LGA has rich deposits of crude oil and salt with the area hosting a number of crude oil mining firms. Fishing is also a crucial economic enterprise in Udung Uko LGA with the area’s rivers and streams being rich in seafood. Other important economic activities of the dwellers of Udung Uko LGA include farming, making of canoes and wood carving.

HISTORY OF UDUNG UKO

Udung Uko LGA was created in the year 1996 from the Oron LGA.
