Ukanafun

Ukanafun local government area is in Akwa Ibom state, South-south geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The towns and villages that make up Ukanafun LGA include Akoyo, Ikot Ibekwe, Nkek, Ikot Uko, Nto Okon, Ikot Etim, Nkek Idim, and Ikot Akai. The estimated population of Ukanafun LGA is put at 153,481 inhabitants with the area predominantly occupied by members of the Annang ethnic group. The Annang language is widely spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is extensively practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Ukanafun LGA include the Community School, Nkek.

Ukanafun LGA has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade with the Ekpene Okpo River flowing through the area. The LGA has substantial forest reserves with the total precipitation in the area put at an estimated 2900 mm of rainfall per annum.

Fishing is an important economic activity engaged in by the people of Ukanfun LGA with the area’s rivers and streams being rich in seafood. Farming also booms in the LGA with crops such as plantain and oil palm grown in the area. Other important economic enterprises engaged in by the people of Ukanafun LGA include trade, wood carving, and crafts making.
