About Abak Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Abak local government area is found in Akwa Ibom state, Southsouth Nigeria and has been in existence as an LGA since it was created in 1976. The major inhabitants of Abak LGA are members of the Annang tribe with the local government area consisting of villages such as Abak Ikot, Abak Itenge, Abak Usung Atai, and Abak Usung Idim. Christianity is the widely practiced religion with a lesser percentage of the area's dwellers being traditional in their religious inclination.

Abak is popular for the excellent tasting Abak atama soup.


GEOGRAPHY OF ABAK

Abak local government area covers a total area of 190 km squared, and has a humidity of 88 percent with an average temperature of 26.5 degrees centigrade.


ECONOMY OF ABAK

Abak local government area is rich in crude oil reserves and has a booming palm oil cultivation with the palm produce usually exported through the nearby ports of Ekpene Okpo and Ikot Okoro.

HISTORY OF ABAK

Abak was invaded by the British in the year 1898 and was made the regional seat of government in 1902 before becoming the Divisional Council headquarters in 1957 and the Development Administrative headquarters in 1958. Abak local government area was created in the year 1976.
