About Dutse Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Dutse local government area is found in Jigawa state which is situated in the Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The towns and villages that make up Dutse LGA include Gidan Dugus, Wangara, Fagoji, Baranda, Zobiya, Madobi, Kawaye, Jidawa, and Dagwaje. The population of Dutse LGA is put at 202,448 inhabitants with the major tribes in the area being the Hausa and the Fulani. Islam is the widely practiced religion in Dutse LGA while the Hausa and Fufulde languages are extensively spoken in the area. The popular landmarks in Dutse LGA include the Federal University Dutse and the Jigawa state polytechnic.


GEOGRAPHY OF DUTSE

Dutse LGA falls under the semi-arid climate and features a rocky topography. The area consists of several hills of varying heights and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. Dutse LGA is largely populated by a specie of trees known as the Dabino trees while the area has an average humidity level of 15 percent.


ECONOMY OF DUTSE

Fishing is a key economic activity in Dutse LGA. Large scale Crop cultivation also takes place in the area with a wide variety of crops grown in the LGA. Other important economic activities in Dutse LGA include Animal husbandry, hunting and trade with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Central Market Dutse. Also, the Jifatu group of companies has a food processing plant in the area and this has greatly contributed to the economic development of the area.

Dutse local government area was created in the year 1991.
