About Hadejia Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Hadejia local government area is situated in Jigawa state, Northwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Hadejia. Several towns and villages constitute Hadejia LGA and these include Dabantu, Garko, Gazulmari, Makwalla, Kofar Arewa, Kofar Gabar, Majema, and Rumfa. The estimated population of Hadejia LGA is put at 153,784 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s populace made up of people of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic extractions. The Duwai, Hausa, and the Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in Hadejia LGA while Islam is the widely practiced religion in the area. Hadejia LGA hosts the prestigious Hadejia Emirate and the area has a number of notable landmarks such as the Hadejia General Hospital, the Hadejia school of Nursing, and the Binyaminu Usman Polytechnic.


GEOGRAPHY OF HADEJIA

Hadejia LGA lies off the Hadejia River and in close proximity to the Hadejia-Nguru wetlands. The average temperature of the area is 31 degrees centigrade while the average wind speed in the area is at 9 km/h. Hadejia LGA also hosts a number of rivers and tributaries.


ECONOMY OF HADEJIA

Farming is a key economic activity in Hadejia LGA with the area renowned for the massive cultivation of crops such as rice and wheat. The LGA also has a vibrant trade sector with the area hosting several markets where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold and these markets include the popular Hadejia Fish market. Other important economic activities engaged in by the dwellers of Hadejia LGA include fishing, animal rearing and craftsmanship.
