About Gagarawa Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Gagarawa local government area is in Jigawa state, Northwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Gagarawa. The towns and villages that make up Gagarawa LGA include Garin Ciroma, Yalawa, Madaka, Maiadua, Sarkin Dare, Kore Balatu, Medu, and Maidukilili. The estimated population of Gagarawa LGA is put at 161,290 inhabitants with the most prominent tribes in the area being the Hausa and the Fulani. The Fufulde and Hausa languages are spoken in the area while Islam is the widely practiced religion in the area. Notable landmarks in the LGA include the Great Northern Agric Business limited.


GEOGRAPHY OF GAGARAWA

Gagarawa LGA covers a total area of 654 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry season which runs from October to May and the rainy season which runs from June to September. The average wind speed in the area is 12 km/h while the average humidity of the area is 24 percent.


ECONOMY OF GAGARAWA

Agriculture is the major economic activity in Gagarawa local government area. A number of crops such as rice, beans, soyabeans, and potatoes are grown in the LGA while animals such as cows, rams, and horses are reared in the area. Other important economic activities in the LGA include pottery, woodwork, blacksmithing and hunting. Gagarawa LGA also has a booming trade sector with several markets where the dwellers of the area go to exchange a variety of goods and services.
