About Garki Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Garki local government area is in Jigawa state, Northwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Garki. The towns and villages that make up Garki LGA include Chakurawa, Balarabe, Babande, Dantsoro, Kanyar, Kurgungun, Tuya, and Makadi. The estimated population of Garki LGA is put at 159,671 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s populace constituting of members of the Hausa, Fulani, and Kanuri ethnic affiliations. The Fufulde and Hausa languages are widely spoken in the area while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF GARKI

Garki LGA covers a total area of 1,408 square kilometres and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average temperature of the area is put at 34 degrees centigrade while the average humidity of the LGA is pegged at 26 percent.


ECONOMY OF GARKI

Agriculture is the main occupation of the people of Garki LGA with a number of crops such as millet, rice, onions, and sorghum grown in the area. Also, a number of domestic animals such as cattle, goats, and rams are reared in the area. Trade is another important feature of the economy of Garki LGA with the area hosting several markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold by the inhabitants of the LGA and neighbouring places.
