About Maigatari Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Maigatari local government area is situated in Jigawa state, North-west Nigeria with its headquarters in the town of Maigatari. Maigatari LGA is bordered by parts of the Niger Republic and comprises of several towns and villages which include Turbus, Galadi, Matoya, Kukayasku, Dankumbo, Fulata, Jajeri, and Balarabe. The estimated population of Maigatari LGA is put at 204,899 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa and Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in Maigatari LGA while the religion of Islam is mostly practiced in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF MAIGATARI

Maigatari LGA covers a total area of 870 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The LGA experiences two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons and has an average wind speed of 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF MAIGATARI

Maigatari LGA hosts a number of markets such as the Maigatari cattle market and these markets contribute immensely to the economy of the area.  Farming is also an important economic activity in Maigatari LGA with a variety of crops grown in the area. Animal rearing and hunting are some of the other important activities undertaken by the people of Maigatari LGA.
