About Charanchi Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Charanchi local government area is found in Katsina state, Northwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Charanchi. Charanchi local government area is made up of a number of towns and villages which include Radda, Yana, Maje, Banye, Kuraye, Ganuwa, and Koda. The population of Charanchi LGA is estimated at 129,301 inhabitants with the majority tribe being the Fulani. The Fufulde language is commonly spoken in the area while Islam is the widely practiced religion in Charanchi.


GEOGRAPHY OF CHARANCHI

Charanchi LGA covers a total area of 471 square kilometres with an estimated humidity level of 13 percent. The average temperature of the area is 33 degrees centigrade while the wind speed of the area averages 10 km/h. The two dominant seasons witnessed in Charanchi LGA are the rainy and dry seasons.


ECONOMY OF CHARANCHI

Cattle rearing is a key economic feature in Charanchi LGA with a sizeable portion of the populace being cattle rearers and nomads.  Crop cultivation is also an important activity in Charanchi with a number of crops such as cotton grown in the area. Trade also booms in the area with the presence of a number of markets which include the Charanchi Main market.

HISTORY OF CHARANCHI

Charanchi local government area was created in the year 1996 from Rimi LGA.
